ALL | FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IS 'AT LAST LOST' A COMPETITION?

It's an event and a personal challenge, without prizes. The publication of the results and the live map geographical information is for recreational and safety purposes. We aren't responsible for any interpretation that our event is a race. However, we are aware and don't deny that the sporting spirit and the ability to overcome difficulties is linked to an event with these characteristics, which sparks enthusiasm among participants and within the community (including us).

WHAT does the participation fee INCLUDEs?

The value of the fee is €125. Includes live tracking & map service via 'Whip', adventure-manual, briefing session, belongings storage in Alte, event's CAP, brevet card and accidents insurance.

HOW DOES THE REGISTRATION SYSTEM WORK?

Registration opens on MARCH 1 2024 00:01AM (Central Europe Time). A link to the registration form will be available on the main page of the event's website. After submission, you will receive in the following minutes or hours (maximum 24 hours later) an email with a link to the fee payment page (PayPal or bank card options available). The fee payment is the final step in order to complete the registration. You will receive a confirmation and welcome email from FinisTerra CC. Registration in the 'pair' category is done individually (each member of the duo must fill out the form individually). Then, you can complete the registration/pay the fee for both (250€) or separately (125€ + 125€).

HoW does the REFUND POLICY work?

A 'cancellation insurance' is available (for extra 30€) which gives you the possibility of obtaining a 100% refund of the fee (100€) if you face specific circumstances that don't allow you to participate, namely a physical injury or illness, an unexpected unemployment situation or the death of a next of kin. The fee with the cancellation insurance is 155€. We will not refund you if you don't have a cancelation insurance. However, if we sold out - the 50 spots available - we will move your registration to the next edition. We will announce soon more information about the FinisTerra's Refund Policy.

I AM AN INTERNATIONAL RIDER. TIPS?

The closest airport is located in Faro (40 kilometers away from Alte). Lisbon is 3 hours away by train from 'Messines-Alte' station. Don't need to dismount your bike in InterCity trains. In Lisbon you can also store your bike bag with our friends/partners.

What IS THE TIME LIMIT to complete my route?

The event will last for almost 4 days (maximum time to complete your route). The last CP and arrival point will close at 23:59 on November 4th (Monday). The time limit for reaching the Check Points will be proportional to the total time limit. It is okay if you arrive to Alte after the time limit and end of the event, but you should be aware that our insurance will not be able to cover you in case of an accident.

road or off road bike?

The doubt is part of the 'game'. A road bike will allow you to go faster, but a gravel/mtb bike will allow you to use "shortcuts". Your bike, your route. We are expecting to see more road bikes at the departure line, but don't forget that an off-road bike will give you more route options and comfort. However, even if you ride some off-road tracks, tarmac will prevail during your journey. It is possible to access all check points via tarmac. It means that is possible to ride 'At Last Lost' 100% on tarmac.

Will computers with internet be available at the Check points to help with navigation and route planning?

Following self-supported approach, the riders must have their knowledge, own means or/and technology to insert the coordinates and plan their routes. Important note: in some CPs there is the possibility of riders don't have internet signal. 'At Last Lost' is a brand new type of adventure in the ultracycling and bikepacking scene. This type of adventure adds a new layer to the emotional challenge and navigation/route planning skills are crucial. This adventure starts long before the departure at the starting line. Get ready!

Which are the mandatory items?

Helmet, reflective vest (during the nights and poor visibility conditions), frontal and rear lights (including a backup kit), emergency blanket. The organization ensures personal insurance for accidents (expenses for treatment, repatriation, disability and death). Presence at the briefing session is mandatory for all participants (Friday night September 6th in Alte, Algarve).
